True Worship

What do you think of when you hear the term"worship" used? How is the term normally used? What are we describing when we use the word in the context of everyday life? Think about these questions for a moment and then ask yourself, "What is true worship?" What does it really mean to worship the Lord?

We usually think of worship as being a time when we sing songs to the Lord and have a "worship service" usually at a set time and place. Of course, there is nothing wrong with this, but it's when we start thinking that we only worship God at certain times that the problem occurs. We have thought of worship as being a set time or a place instead of a way of life.

Our lives are worship. We are worship and we were created for it. We are called to be living sacrifices, living bowls of incense, continually burning before the Lord. The incense of our lives is His love in us and flowing out of us. His love for the nations, those living in darkness and hopelessness, the poor, the widows and the orphans. When we let His love flow through us into the lives of real people and our love is manifest by our actions, we become worship to the Lord. This is worship.

Why is this worship? Because when we love those who are lost and without hope, we are loving Him. When we act out of love and minister to those living in darkness, we are ministering to Him (Matthew 25:37-40). When we are truly one with God and we know Him and have a revelation of who He is, we can't help but love. This is what it means to know Him (Jeremiah 22:15-16). If we pray and fast out of a motivation driven by love, we become the answer to our own prayers. We become love. We become prayer. This is the fast that He has chosen (Isaiah 58:6-7).

My vision is that out of the Oracle of Love and the deep heart of God, our cries, our prayers, our desire, our longing, singing, groaning, dancing and shouting will ascend to Heaven in creative worship as a natural manifestation that occurs when the beautiful exchange of prophetic worship takes place, and that this worship will extend to those who sit in darkness, that love of God will not be contained. It will always be growing, morphing, moving and flowing. It never stops, it keeps going, it grows larger and grows stronger. It is a mighty and powerful force that cannot be quenched. This is what love means. This is my vision of true worship.

Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me. (Matthew 25:37-40)

Does it make you a king to have more and more cedar? Did not your father have food and drink? He did what was right and just, so all went well with him. He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me? declares the Lord. (Jeremiah 22:15-16)

Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter, when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? (Isaiah 58:6-7)
